Therapy with Clients with a Christian World View

Often Christian clients have a tendency to mistrust psychology and psychologists. They may feel that the therapists will not understand the interaction between the client's world view and their psychological issues. Participants in this workshop will learn to:
- Treat clients with a Christian word view
- Use spiritual disciplines as a therapeutic intervention
- Understand the history of theology/psychology integration
- Learn how faith can help/hinder psychological growth
Presenters:
Kenneth Polite, PhD
Dr. Polite is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and an ordained pastor. He graduated from The Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters in Theology and a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Polite has been involved in the education and training of psychologist for 30 years. He is the former Director of Clinical Training at both The Illinois School of Professional Psychology and Rosemead School of Psychology, and the former Dean of The Doctor of Psychology Program of the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles. He has been a practicing psychologist since 1983.
Erica Holmes, Psy.D
Dr. Erica Holmes has over 15 years of experience in the fields of psychotherapy and counseling, training and consultation, seminar and workshop presenting, education, and research. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in Behavioral Science, as well as, a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Holmes is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California and has worked in independent psychotherapy practice, conducted evaluation research, residential and community mental health, specialty care (substance abuse: for which she received an APA Minority Fellowship), and in academia.
Dr. Holmes is a former faculty member at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Los Angeles, a current faculty member at Loyola Marymount University, conducts program development and evaluation research as a private consultant, is the director of clinical training in the Champion Counseling Center at Faithful Central Bible Church, and provides supervision and directs mental health services for a school-based health clinic in Watts. Her clinical work includes: Psychology and Spirituality; Faith-Based psychotherapy; Multicultural Psychology; Trauma survival and research; and Community Involvement Programs.
