Hannah, Elkanah’s wife, said to Eli the priest:
“I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to The LORD.”
- (1 Samuel 1:27‐28) NIV
The Baby Dedication ceremony is about setting apart or ‘dedicating’ your child for use by God. The parents are asking God to grant His grace and favor to their child with the thought of one day the child making a decision of his or her own to have a personal relationship with Him. It is a visual ceremony of the parent’s desire for their child to grow up and serve the LORD.
There is nothing “magical” about Baby Dedication. Baby Dedication simply means you are giving God permission to shape and mold your child’s life. This ceremony does not guarantee your child will never become ill. Nor does it mean that your child will automatically be saved, because everyone must make a personal choice to accept Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior (Romans 10:9-10).
The Baby Dedication Ceremony is only held four times per year. Before a child can be dedicated at FCBC, parents and God Parents must attend one of two mandatory Baby Dedication Sessions. The information sessions are held in The Trinity Building at 333 W. Florence Ave., Inglewood. Please bring your Bible.
